presentation on the subject.
Ross Castle
This picturesque and noble ruin, now fully restored to its former glory, was the
stronghold of the O’Donoghue’s. It stands on the shores of Killarney’s largest
lake and looks out at the legendary monastery on Innisfallen island where Brian
Boru, High King of Ireland, is said to have studied. Tours of the castle are
available during the summer months.
Regular class/coursework for which school books German and Irish can be used.
A view to developing English within the German school system will also be taken into account.
A vocabulary book to collect all new words. New words will be re-used in
different contexts repeatedly over the two weeks. This is a very important
feature of the course. Grammar will also be a critical part of the course. It
will take place inside the house of the hosting family, or in the case of bigger
groups a room inside an educational training centre, or on very good days in
quiet parts of a natural reserve area, or other outdoor areas.
The main focus will be on getting everyone to speak in English. To this end we
use traditional techniques, audio-visuals and active touring projects.
Video Documentary:
A video documentary from the students about anything in the holiday.
End of day diary:
A daily description of what happens using words learnt in that day.
Day trips will also take place which involve cycling, trekking tours, bus tour of Ring of Kerry. We will
also go to the cinema (appropriate children's movie), or see a drama play if requested.
All course attendees are assessed to determine their level. All courses come with a post-course revision and analysis class. This will test and revise what has been learned.
